Race report
Five riders open up a gap early on. Jetse Bol, Julius van den Berg, Xabier Mikel Azparren, Thibault Guernalec and Pau Miquel put more than 5 minutes into the peloton. That’s all they get.
The five are almost caught with 100 kilometres to go before the gap bounces back to 1 minute.
Van den Berg sprints to the first polka dot jersey on the Alto de Amerongse before the attackers are reeled in with 60 kilometer remaining.
Luis Ángel Maté goes solo inside the last 45 kilometres and he is caught 20 kilometres later.
Mads Pedersen opens the sprint early, but he runs out of steam a bit and Sam Bennett overhauls him. Mike Teunissen finishes in fourth to move into the red jersey.
