Vuelta 2021 Route stage 2: Caleruega - Burgos
Sunday 15 August - At 166.7 kilometres, stage 2 at La Vuelta is played out on a route between Caleruega and Burgos. It doesn't get much flatter than this in Spain.
After the start in Caleruega – where Saint Dominic, founder of the Dominican Order, was born almost 1,000 years ago – the riders traverse the Castilian-Leonese plain for the rest of the day. A bunch sprint is next to certain.
Winning two stages, Pascal Ackermann was the most successful sprinter in last year’s edition of La Vuelta. Two years ago, both Fabio Jakobsen and Sam Bennett powered to two sprint victories.
The stage finishes in the most populated neighbourhood of Burgos: Gamonal.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while there are 3, 2 and 1 seconds available at the intermediate sprint.
