The 2nd stage is played out on a route with an elevation gain of 3,400 metres. The race comes down to the Alto de Pinos, which is an ascent of 11 kilometres long. The Alto de Pinos is mostly a low-gradient climb, but the average gradients in the last 3 kilometres goes up to 7%. The road then levels out in the last 500 metres.
Stage 4 takes in four intermediate climbs before the finale is played out on the Alto de la Cueva Santa. The last 7.4 kilometres go up at 4.7%. And again, just like on the second day, the last 3 kilometres are the steepest part of the climb.
Two formers winner line up in Valencia, namely title holder Aleksandr Vlasov and Wout Poels. Other winners since the re-start in 2016 are Nairo Quintana, Alejandro Valverde, Ion Izagirre, Tadej Pogacar, and Stefan Küng.
