Giro d’Italia 2016 Stage 15: Surprise winner Foliforov takes uphill ITT, Kruijswijk outpowers competition

At 10.85 kilometres, stage 15 in the 2016 Giro d'Italia is an ITT for the climbers. While climbing up Alpe di Siusi 24-year old Russian Alexander Foliforov outperforms the man in pink, Steven Kruijswijk, by 16 seconds, yet the Dutchman can take comfort in the fact he puts time into all of his GC opponents. He now leads the overall more than 2 minutes ahead of Esteban Chaves, while Nibali sits in third. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
The only intermediate check point is after 4.3 kilometres. Kruijswijk is fastest in 9’07”, 9 seconds ahead of Zakarin, 12 seconds ahead of Valverde, 21 seconds ahead of Firsanov and Jungels, 22 seconds ahead of Majka, 30 seconds ahead of Nibali, and 43 seconds ahead of Chaves.

At the climb Nibali is thwarted by a mechanical and he has to change bikes.

After a brilliant second part of the race Alexander Foliforov is fastest at the line: 28’38”.
