The riders roll down the starting ramp on the Zeedijk – or, Sea Dike – and continue 1.5 kilometres along the Nort Sea in northern direction. A sharp righthander leads inland and after moving through Knokke-Heist’s centre the route continues on straight and exposed roads to Westkapelle, Oostkerke, Dudzele and Damme. Except for a lefthander in Dudsele and a righthander in Damme the route is tailor made to develop break neck speeds.
Title holder Anna van der Breggen and the World Champion of 2019 Cloé Dygert are both absent. In 2018 and in 2017 Annemiek van Vleuten stormed to victory, while Marlen Reusser recently took the European Championships with a dominant performance.
There are two intermediate time checks – at kilometre 13.8 and at kilometre 20.8.
