Vuelta 2014 Route stage 10: Monasterio de Veruela – Borja

Vuelta 2014 stage 10Tuesday, September 2 – Stage 10 in the 2014 Vuelta is a time trial in 36.2 kilometers. The start is a the monastery in Veruela and the finish line is in the village of Borja. Directly from the start the road goes up. The second part is mainly going down.

Real Monasterio de Santa María de Veruela is an abbey founded in the 12the century. It is located near Vera de Moncayo in the province of Zaragoza.

As the crow flies the arrival place of Borja is less than 17 kilometers from the monastery of Veruela. Directly from the start, riders take a detour, leading them over Alto del Moncoya. In 8 kilometers they arrive at the top, the climb has an average grade of 4.4%. However, the last two kilometres before the top have an average grade of 8.3 %, containing some 15 % sections.

Upon cresting the road is a fairly straight line to the finish, descending from 1.000 altimeters to 440 altimeters. Perhaps with the exception of a tiny hurdle halfway it’s big gear time.

It is the first time in the history that a stage in the Vuelta finishes in Borja.

The first riders starts around 13:12 (CET) and the leader in the GC at 16:52.
