Tour de France 2020 Favourites stage 12: Day for the breakaway

The longest race of the Tour de France is tailored for the breakaway. At 218 kilometres, the riders navigate the roads of the Haute-Vienne to the south for a finish in Sarran Corrèze.

The course runs from one hill to the next. GC riders are unlikely to expend valuable resource on the way from Chauvigny to Sarran Corrèze, while sprinters will be happy to cross the line in one piece. So, with an elevation gain of some 2,500 metres, this is a perfect day for the breakaway.

The Suc au May is expected to play a crucial role. This 5.7 kilometres climb at 8.8% precedes a 6 kilometres descent into Chaumeil before the last 13 kilometres to the line are played out on narrow and undulating roads.
