The last 50 kilometres of the 15th stage in the Giro d’Italia are a perfect copy of Tours of Lombardy of 2014 and 2016. Firstly, the climb to Miragolo San Salvatore – 8.9 kilometres at 7% -, then the Selvino – 6.9 kilometres at 5.4% -, and subsequently a 15 kilometres drop that continues on a flat run-in to Bergamo. The actual finale takes in a punchy and partly cobbled climb into the old town before the riders plummet down to the finish line.
The 2014 Tour of Lombardy was won by Dan Martin ahead of Alejandro Valverde and Rui Costa, while Esteban Chaves took the flowers in last edition, finishing ahead of Diego Rosa and Rigoberto Uran. Both Diego Rosa and Rui Costa are riding the Giro, and so is Davide Villella. The 25-year old Italian finished in fifth.
