Giro d’Italia 2016 Favourites stage 17: For the fast men (who are still on board)

Totalling at 196 kilometres, the first half of stage 17 is on gently rolling roads, while the second part in the Giro d'Italia is completely flat. Fast men who are still on board will be eyeing up this one. (Slideshow route/profile)

Until now the Giro d’Italia served five stages for the sprinters, and all were won by riders who left the race. Marcel Kittel was victorious on two occassion, while André Greipel took the other three. They are out of the race and the same goes for Caleb Ewan and Elia Viviani.

So the lesser sprinters will be eyeing up their chances. Giacomo Nizzolo is engaged in a battle for the red jersey, which will be an extra motivation to outsprint the lot. At the same time Sacha Modolo will be desperate to add another victory to his double success in the 2015 Giro d’Italia.
