Odds are that the fast men will showcase their talents for the first time this Vuelta in the streets of Ourém. Following the start in seaside town Cascais to the west of Lisbon the riders travel north. There are hardly any obstacles and certainly no big climbs.
Last year’s Vuelta saw five bunch sprints. Three were won by Kaden Groves, who also took the green jersey, whereas Geoffrey Soupe and Alberto Dainese triumphed in the remaining two.
The old part of Ourém is perched on a hill, while the modern part is situated on the valley floor.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while there are 3, 2 and 1 seconds available at the intermediate sprint.
