Sam Bennett won the first two sprint stages of La Vuelta, but he pulled out after testing positive on COVID-19.

The winner in Madrid succeeds Pascal Ackermann (2020), Fabio Jakobsen (2019), Elia Viviani (2018), Matteo Trentin (2017), Magnus Cort (2016), John Degenkolb (2015, 2012), Michael Matthews (2013) and Peter Sagan (2011).

Last year’s Vuelta did not finish in the Spanish capital but with an ITT in Santiago de Compostela. Primoz Roglic took the spoils, both stage wise and GC wise.
