Race report
After roughly 30 kilometres Laurent Pichon, Owain Doull and Alexander Riabushenko edge away from the peloton. They are caught when Ineos Grenadiers uses the wind to split the peloton. Van Aert, Van der Poel, Pedersen, Stuyven, Küng, Laporte and Asgreen are in the second group. The gap between the two groups extends to 1.25 minutes.

Matej Mohoric, Davide Ballerini, Tom Devriendt, Laurent Pichot and Casper Pedersen attack from the first peloton with 115 kilometres remaining. The Van der Poel/Van Aert group merges with the first peloton just before the sector from Haveluy to Wallers.

The five leaders hit the cobbles of Trouée d’Arenberg with a lead of 1.47 minutes. Ballerini punctures and is dropped. He winds up in a chase group with Nils Politt and Connor Swift.

Ganna accelerates on the cobbles and Küng, Kwiatkowski and Stuyven go with him. Van der Poel closes the gap on the tarmac and he brings the main group back.

While Pedersen loses contact due to a mechanical, Devriendt, Mohoric and Pichon put 2.30 minutes into the peloton.

Van Aert speeds up on the cobbles of Orchies. Van der Poel, Van Keirlsbuck, Küng, Turner, Van Baarle, Lampaert, Sénéchal, Stuyven, Petit, Van der Hoorn and Trentin go with him. Van Baarle goes solo on the next sector.

The Dutchman hits Mons-en-Pévèle 40 seconds behind the three leaders. Pichon loses contact, while Van Aert opens a gap in the chase group. Küng and Van der Poel regain contact on the tarmac.

The three rejoin Van Baarle and Pichon. Stuyven, Turner, Lampaert and Petit also make it back. Moments later Van Aert punctures and he drops back.

Mohoric suffers a mechanical with 38 kilometres and he winds up in the chase group. Meanwhile, Van Aert regains contact as well.

Lampaert strikes while approaching the secor from Cysoing to Bourghelles. Mohoric goes with him and the two catch Devriendt before Van Baarle also makes it across on the pavé.

Stuyven attacks before Camphin-en-Pévèle, while Van Aert and Küng track him down. Stuyven is forced to chase after a bike change.

Van Baarle opens a gap on the cobbles. The Dutchman hits Carrefour de l’Arbre 9 seconds ahead of Mohoric and Lampaert. He extends his lead on the pavé with 7 seconds.

Van Baarle keeps on flying and he widens the lead to a comfortable margin.

Lampaert crashes with 8 kilometers to go after touching a spectator and there is a regroupment behind the sole leader.

Van Baarle crosses the line celebrating before the chasers enter the Velodrome almost 2 minutes later. Van Aert outguns Küng in the sprint for second place.
