Race report
For the second day in a row Daniel Teklehaimanot manages to get into the break away. His companions Ilia Koshevoy, Lukasz Oswian, Evgeny Shalunov and Simone Andreetta, and the five race to a lead of almost 7 minutes.

Andreetta takes the first KOM in Nuoro ahead of Shalunov and Teklehaimanot, while Oswian and Andreetta are dropped on the flanks of the Passo Genna Silana. When they are almost caught by the peloton Teklehaimanot accelerates to power to the KOM jersey.

Nathan Haas attacks on the descent and Davide Martinelli jumps to his wheel – yet, they are reeled in with 35 kms to go. The peloton flies to the line with the exception of Nizzolo and Bennett. The sprinters have been dropped, while Zakarin is plagued by a mechanical in the finale and suffers a loss, too.

In the ensuing sprint Greipel outpowers his rivals. Gaviria jumps too early, while Ewan suffers a mechanical problem in the dying metres of the race.
