World Cycling Championships 2015 Richmond: Route ITT

World Championships 2015 Richmond - ITT Wednesday, September 23, 2015 - The UCI World Championship individual time trial in Richmond is a race over 53.1 kilometres on long straight roads with a technical finale. Bradley Wiggins is title-holder.

The individual time trial begins in Doswell, a commuter town 32 kilometres north of Richmond, at the gates of Kings Dominion, an amusement park with roller-coasters. Is it going to be a roller-coaster ride for the time trialists also?

The race starts with a long flat run over the wide open roads of Hanover County containing two long stretches of false flat on Chamberlayne Road and Wilkinson Road. Once in Richmond the course get’s more technical as nearly half the turns of the ITT track are within the closing kilometres. With 1 kilometre left the 350 metres at 6.9% climb up Governor Street will do damage to a lot of legs. At the top riders turn left and face the last 680 metres on E-Broad, going up by 1% – a false flat.

Governor Street and E-Broad are the arrival of both the road race and the team time trial also.

Title-holder Bradley Wiggins will not be in Richmond to defend his title. Is last year’s runner-up Tony Martin – World Champion in 2011, 2012 and 2013 – going to regain his crown, or are young riders like Tom Dumoulin or Rohan Dennis going to surprise?
