Tour Down Under 2014 Route stage 3: Norwood – Campbelltown

tour down under corkscrew road23 January – Stage 3 in the Tour Down Under is a short one but tricky one. It measures only 145 kilometers but just before the end, riders face Corkscrew Road Hill, a nasty short climb with a lot of hairpins and steepest parts of up to 15%. (Slideshow route/profile)

Norwood hosted the Tour Down Under before, in 2012 stage 4 started also in this suburb of Adelaide.

As the crow flies, start and finish are no too far apart from each other. Passing through places like Paradise, Chain of Ponds and Mount Pleasant, riders go for a big loop through the ‘outback of Adelaide’ before deciding on today’s victory.

The end is tricky. At 11 kilometers from the finish line, the ascension of Corkscrew Road (image) is 3.7 kilometers in length with an average grade of 6.4%. Not very frightening, but it’s a climb with at least 10 hairpins and the steepest parts have a gradient of 15%. At the top it is 7,4 kilometers to the finish.

The stage finishes around 3.00 pm (ACST).
