Race report
Elmiger en Huzarski open fire and after 9.5 kilometres of racing the duo is supported by Pichot, Busche, Edet and Delaplace. With 30 kilometres done the six have a gain of over 4 minutes.
Cannondale moves to the front to control the break in favor of their leader Peter Sagan. Obviously the ‘Hulk’ is eyeing up today’s stage win. After 52 kilometres in the saddle the escapees are on leash, ready to be reeled in anytime, with a gain of under 3 minutes.
At Côte de Maron it’s over. At the back Kittel and Degenkolb (injured) are dropped immediately, Greipel and Démare are next. In the descent Tejay van Garderen hits the deck and it back on his bike with 1 minutes deficit.
Van Avermaet and Sagan crest Côte de Boufflers just before the remains of the bunch, containing all GC men except for Van Garderen. Albasini is upfront and it’s Richie Porte who reels in the two.
Kwiatkowski opens the sprint, Trentin takes over and he beats Sagan on the line with a tube width. At full speed Andrew Talansky hits the tarmac.
