Giro 2017 Favourites stage 12: Back to the fast men

Stage 12 in the Giro d'Italia travels in 234 kilometres from Forlì to Reggio Emilia. Two climbs in the first half of the race, yet the second half is pan-flat. Gentlemen sprinters, on your marks... ready... set... go! (Slideshow route/profile)

After the 12th stage the sprinters have only one chance left to power to victory in this year’s Giro d’Italia – namely tomorrow. Stage 13 is flat from start to finish and if that race doesn’t come down to a bunch sprint the sprintteams are ready for group councelling.

But firstly the ride from Forlì to Reggio Emilia. Not a single climb in the last 120 kilometres, so it should be back to the fast men today.

Two races in this year’s Giro boiled down to a bunch sprint. The 2nd stage was won by André Greipel ahead of Roberto Ferrari and Jasper Stuyven, while Fernando Gaviria outsprinted Jakub Mareczko and Sam Bennett in the 5th stage.
