Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana 2018 Route stage 5: Paterna - Valencia

Volta a Valencia 2018 stage 5 Sunday, 4 February 2018 - The 5th and last stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana starts in Paterna to finish in Valencia. A bunch sprint is the most likely outcome, although Stijn van den Bergh outpowered the peloton in 2016 with a late attack.

Last year, the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana also concluded with a leg from Paterna to Valencia. Initially, that race would amount to 130 kilometres, but due to strong winds and extreme weather the route was shortened to 50 kilometres. Following a flat stage Bryan Coquard sprinted to victory in the streets of Valencia ahead of Nacer Bouhanni and Coen Vermeltfoort.

The route of the 5th stage is almost a copy of last year's original stage. The race is almost entirely played out on the flat, yet with one climb, the Puerto del Oronet. Last year, the Oronet would have been crested with 80 kilometres remaining, now it's 35 kilometer before the finish line. The 6.4 kilometres climb is averaging 4%.

In 2016, Stijn van den Bergh stayed ahead of the chasing pack in the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana's last stage. Behind him, Dylan Groenewegen outsprinted the main group.

The first three riders on the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
