Volta a Catalunya 2016
The 2016 Volta a Catalunya was won by Nairo Quintana ahead of Alberto Contador and Daniel Martin. The Irishman won the first mountain stage, but Quintana took the lead after finishing second on the Queen Stage. In the other stages the Colombian consolidated to take his first win in 2016.

Tsatevich bests Roglic in sprint-a-deux, Quintana GC-winner
The last stage on the Volta a Catalunya is a criterium in Barcelona with eight times the climb up Montjuic. Alexey Tsatevich bests Primoz Roglic in a sprint-a-deux, while Nairo Quintana takes the overall win. Albert Contador is second and Daniel Martin third after taking a time bonus of 1 second at an intermediate sprint.Read more »
Davide Cimolai powers to victory, Quintana still leads GC
At 197.2 kilometres, stage 6 in the Volta a Catalunya leads to Vilanova i la Geltrú. Four escapees are brought back in the last kilometre and then Davide Cimolai powers to an impressive sprint victory. With one hilly stage left Nairo Quintana is still in the lead, but Contador is breathing down his neck while Porte and Dan Martin are not without chances either.Read more »
Wout Poels solos to victory, Quintana retains lead
At 187.2 kilometres, stage 5 in the Volta a catalunya leads to Valls. The finale features a small climb with 7.2 kilometres lef and it's here Wout Poels leaves his fellow-escapees behind to solo to victory. Nairo Quintana is still in the overall lead, despite Contador taking a time bonus of 1 second along the way.Read more »
De Gendt wins Queen Stage, Quintana new leader
Stage 4 in the Volta a Catalunya truly is the Queen Stage. Two climbs in the 'especial' category, while the finish climb brings pure cycling biss. Weening almost solos to victory, but De Gendt takes over with 2 kilometres left. Quintana finishes second to take the leaders jersey.Read more »
Dan Martin powers to victory at stage 3's top finish
At 172.1 kilometres, the riders face four category-1 climbs in stage 3 of the Volta a Catalunya. The fireworks detonate in the final 2 kilometres with a plentitude of attacks. Eventually Dan Martin powers to the win, taking both the stage and the leaders jersey ahead of Contador and Bardet.Read more »
