Tour of Oman 2014 Results 5th stage Froome: stage win + GC lead

Stage 5 was the queen stage of this year's Tour of Oman, starting in BidBid and finishing atop Green Mountain at an altitude of 1,235 metres. Just like last year, Chris Froome proved to be the King of Green Mountain, attacking late in the stage to win ahead of Tejay van Garderen and Rigoberto Uran. (Slideshow route/profile)

Sprengers, Van Hecke, Canola and Murphy were today’s escapees. The quartet broke free early and remained at the front until the base of the final climb.

Sergio Henao fired the first shots in what was Sky's version of the old one-two. Robert Gesink and Van Garderen bridged over to the Columbian but as soon as they did Froome turned on the after-burners. Van Garderen and Uran tried to close the gap but even they must've known they were racing for 2nd place. The young American took that honour but the day belonged to Froome who took the stage win and the GC lead.
