A group of 6 riders - with homerider Tom Danielson - is up front during the whole day. Their gain goes down on the closing climb, but Danielson, De la Cruz and Chavez survive. When the last one dances away from his fellow escapees in the last 5 kilometres no one is able to react.
In the bunch with GC men Wiggins is having a hard time, but he manages to cling on and eventually gains 2 seconds.
