The Tour Down Under never before visited Uraidla, while Norwood is a regular host. As the crow flies, both places are merely 15 kilometres apart, but the riders take a different route.

The race starts by winding its way up the beautiful Gorge Road to continue all the way to Mount Pleasant before returning via Mount Torrens, Lobethal and Lenswood. With 13.2 kilometres remaining the riders hit Norton Summit, a 5.8 kilometres climb at 5%. After the sprint for KOM points the route continues on a small plateau before another uphill section on Woods Hill Road leads to a 3.3 kilometres (gentle) descent into Uraidla.

Two intermediate sprints - at kilometre 35.8 and at kilometre 70.6 - come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each, while the first three riders on the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
