Race report
Straight from the start Sander Armee, Frederik Veuchelen and Jaroslaw Marycz were off up the road, their gap growing to a maximum 5 minutes. The peloton were always in control and with 10 kilometres the trio were caught.

The finale was filled with dangerous bends, which some team managers had voiced concern about. Their complaints proved correct; Cavendish had sat up in order to just stay safe but still ended up going down in a crash.

Peter Sagan, John Degenkolb and Sacha Modolo braved the technical finish and it was the Italian who was rewarded for his daring, taking the stage win.
