Tour de RomandieThe 2016 Tour de Romandie was won by Nairo Quintana. After winning the first mountain stage his leaders jersey was safely on his shoulders for the rest of the race. Chris Froome was a faded shadow of his best self in the first mountain stage, finishing almost 20 minutes down on Quintana, while he powered to the win in the Queen Stage. On the podium Quintana was flanked by Thibaut Pinot and Ion Izagirre.

Stage 5 – Albasini brings early break home, Quintana overall winner

In the closing stage of the Tour de Romandie a super break with Chris Froome colours the race. The winner of yesterday's Queen Stage is dropped in the finale and Kelderman, Amador, Verona and Albasini power to the line. Tom Bohali storms alongside in the last kilometre, but Michael Albasini takes him back to sprint to victory. Nairo Quintana is the overall victor in the 2016 Tour de Romandie, with Thibaut Pinot in second and Ion Izagirre in third.

Stage 2 - Quintana wins first mountain stage and is new leader

The best is saved for last during the 2nd stage of the Tour de Romandie. In the final 22 kilometres the riders are welcomed by two tough ascents that are separated by a steep 3 kilometres drop. Quintana attacks at the closing climb with 6.5 kilometres left and Zakarin joins him. The Russian sprints to victory, or so it seems, as the organisation decides it was an irregular sprint. So: stage win and leaders jersey to Quintana with Zakarin in second.
