Tour de Pologne 2020 Route stage 2: Opole - Zabrze
The finish place is a destination with a sad story. Last year, Bjorg Lambrecht crashed on the road to Zabrze. The young Belgian was taken by helicopter to the hospital, where he later died.
Despite Lambrecht's fatal crash the race continued to Zabrze. Pascal Ackermann took the spoils after Fabio Jakobsen was relegated as a result of an irregular final sprint. The German succeeded Álvaro José Hodeg and Caleb Ewan, who triumphed in Zabrze in 2018 and 2017.
A sprint finish is on the cards again. Roughly 60 kilometres into the race the road climbs to Góra Świętej Anny, which is the only ascent of the day. On a virtually route the riders continue to a 6.1 kilometres final circuit in Zabrze. Good timing will be essential on the slightly uphill home straight.
The intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds, while time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders on the line.
