Ruta del Sol 2017
Edition 63 of the Ruta del Sol was won by title defender Alejandro Valverde. The Spaniard bested his compatriot Alberto Contador by 1 second, while Thibaut Pinot finished in third. It was the fifth time in his career Valverde took the Vuelta a Andalucia.

Wellens takes early break home, Valverde overall winner
At 151.5 kilometres, the last stage in the Ruta del Sol travels on a hilly route to Coín. In rainy conditions Tim Wellens is the best rider of a front group of six, while Alejandro Valverde wins the overall in the Ruta del Sol for the fifth time in his career.Read more »

Pinot takes Queen Stage, Contador new leader
At 179.9 kilometres, the Queen Stage of the Ruta del Sol takes in four ascents to travel to a summit finish after a 5.3 kilometres closing climb at 9.3%. It's there that Contador goes on the attack, yet he is caught in the dying metres of the race by Pinot. The Frenchman wins the stage and Contador takes the leaders jersey.Read more »
Valverde takes 1st stage and leader's jersey
At 155 kilometres, stage 1 in the Ruta del Sol takes in five climbs. The last one is crested with 18 kilometres to go and it's there the race ignites. Eventually six riders sprint for the win in Granada. Valverde bests Poels, while Reichenbach finishes in third. Valverde is the first overall leader.Read more »
