Paris-Nice 2016
Edition 74 of Paris-Nice was won by Geraint Thomas after a thrilling last stage. Alberto Contador attacked at the penultimate climb, with 55 kilometres left, and he came close. At the top of the last climb, Col d'Eze, the Spaniard was the virtual leader, but Thomas rose from the dead in a brilliant descent. Eventualy, the Welshman took Paris-Nice 2016 with a 4 seconds lead over Contador, while 2015 winner Richie Porte finished third.

The final stage of Paris-Nice brings 141 kilometres and six climbs. On the penultimate climb Contador attacks and opens a thrilling finale. He comes close, but eventually Geraint Thomas wins Paris-Nice 2016 with a 4 seconds lead. Tim Wellens, who was in the early break, takes the stage at the Promenade des Anglais ahead of Contador and Porte.Read more »
Ilnur Zakarin takes stage 6, Geraint Thomas new leader
At 177 kilometres, stage 6 in Paris-Nice leads over six mountains to the foot of the closing climb. Leader Matthews is dropped at the penultimate climb and in the 15.3 kilometres toil at 5.7% to La Madone d'Utelle Zakarin proves to be strongest. Geraint Thomas is on his wheel and the Welshman is the new overall leader, 15 seconds ahead of Alberto Contador.Read more »
Lutsenko solos to victory, Matthews retains overall lead
Stage 5 in Paris-Nice contains five ascents. Michael Matthews survives all climbs and sprints to a 4 seconds time bonus in Salon de Provence. But the big man is Lutsenko, who solos to victory in the last 20 kilometres. and catapults himself to second place.Read more »
Sprint victory Bouhanni in stage 4, Matthews still in the lead
Stage 4 of Paris - Nice is mostly flat and a bunch sprint is the most likely outcome. But sprinters eyeing up the win have to brave a 2nd category climb with 30 kilometres left. That's too much fo Kittel, but not for Bouhanni. After his disqualification two days ago he powers to the win, besting Theuns and Greipel. Michael Matthews retains the yelow jersey.Read more »
Stage 3 cancelled due to snow
At 168 kilometres, stage 3 in Paris - Nice was meant to take the riders over six hills to the steep closing climb up Mont Brouilly, but after 100 kilometres in the saddle the race is neutralized because of the harsh conditions. Centimetres of snow on the roads makes safe racing impossible. The GC stays as it was at the start, so Michael Matthews is still in the lead.Read more »
