Race report
The riders leave Piacenza with a wet day ahead of them. Victor Campenaerts is the first attacker and Quinten Hermans goes with him. After 30 kilometres of hard racing Alessandro De Marchi, Filippo Zanna, Nicolas Edet, Márton Dina, Francesco Gavazzi, Rein Taaramäe, Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier, Joe Dombrowksi, Nelson Oliveira, Valerio Conti, Pieter Serry, Christoper Juul-Jensen, Koes de Kort, Louis Vervaeke, Pieter Serry, Andrea Vendrame, Filippo Tagliani, Nicola Venchiarutti, Jan Tratnik, Atilla Valter, Nico Denz, Filippo Fiorelli, Samuele Zoccarato and Jacopo Mosca bridge across to the duo. They carve out a lead of more than 6 minutes.

In the descent of the first classified climb Hermans, Juul-Jensen and Taaramäe jump clear.
