Race report
Once the flag is dropped Mohoric accelerates and Brutt, Albanese and Van Zyl jump to his wheel. Bingo, the break of the day is off. They race to a lead of 2 minutes before Van Zyl stops his efforts. So a three men front group today.
The peloton keeps them on a leash, the gap never widens to slightly more than 2 minutes. With 22 kms to go the break is reeled in.
In the ensuing sprint Gaviria comes from way back to catch Bennett in the dying metres and take his fourth victory in the 2017 Giro d’Italia.
