Vuelta 2021 Route stage 10: Roquetas de Mar - Rincón de la Victoria

Vuelta a España 2021 stage 10Tuesday 24 August - At 189 kilometres, the 10th stage of La Vuelta runs almost entirely along the Mediterranean coastline of southern Spain. But the route turns inland with 35 kilometres remaining to enter a 5 kilometres climb at 8% before a flying descent leads into Rincón de la Victoria.

Three years ago Roquetas de Mar hosted a stage finish at La Vuelta. It was a race through the middle mountains and Simon Clarke won from the breakaway ahead of Bauke Mollema and Alessandro De Marchi.

This time the coastal town acts as the starting point of a race along the Mediterranean sea. The roads are virtually flat until the route leaves the coast to turn inland near Vélez-Málaga.

Shortly after moving through the most important city in the Axarquía region the route climbs false flat onto 1 kilometre at 10%. The route then continues at shallow gradients to the village of Almáchar before the last 5 kilometres rise at 8%. The entire climb totals 10.9 kilometres and averages 4.9%.

The Puerto de Almáchar peaks out with 15.1 kilometres remaining. The finale is a flying descent back to the coast.

Rincón de Victoria lies just east of Málaga. The town never before hosted a stage finish at La Vuelta.

The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds. Furthermore, 3, 2 and 1 seconds are available at the top of the Puerto de Almáchar.
