Vuelta 2020: Solo win Ion Izagirre in Aramón Formigal, Carapaz new leader

Race report
Attacks are flying from the gun. Rémi Cavagna, Magnus Cort and Remy Mertz are the first riders to open up a gap before Cavagna leaves the others behind. In a 20 kilometres chase a group with Rui Costa, Sergio Henao, Robert Power, Michael Storer, Jasha Sütterlin, Ion Izagirre, Gorka Izagirre, Dylan van Baarle, Magnus Cort, Michael Woods, Quentin Jauregui, Georg Zimmermann, Guillaume Martin, Victor Lafay, Pierre-Luc Perichon, Michael Valgren, Jorge Arcas, Carlos Verona, Jonathan Hivert, Julien Amezqueta and Óscar Cabedo tracks the Frenchman down. The attackers race to a lead of more than 4 minutes.

Gorka Izagirre goes on the attack in the descent of the second climb. He is the best placed attacker in the GC, 3.37 minutes behind the maillot rojo.

The lone attacker is brought back on the finish climb by ten other breakaway riders. Chaves and Carthy strike in the peloton.

While the GC group explodes on the lower slopes Ion Izagirre goes solo inside the last 3 kilometres. The Basque forges on to win the race ahead of Michael Woods and Rui Costa

Carthy is the first GC rider to cross the line, while Carapaz finishes 43 seconds ahead of Roglic to move into the overall race lead.
