Vuelta 2014 Route stage 1: Jerez - Jerez
Saturday, August 23 – Stage 1 of the 2014 Vuelta is a flat team time trial of 12.6 kilometres in the streets of Jerez de la Frontera. Editie 2013 started in Galicia, the north of Spain – this year the opposite, in the deep south.
Jerez is known as the capital of sherry. Walking through the streets of the white town de smell of the fortified wine comes to you. Could be some riders will feel motivated by this to produce even greater wattages than usual.
In recent years the Vuelta opened with a team time trial. The 2013 edition saw Astana (Nibali) take the lead in a 27 kilometres ride.
The first team leaves at 19:04 (CET) and the last one 20:28, they start with 4 minutes in between.
