Volta a Catalunya 2021 Route stage 6: Tarragona - Mataró

Volta a Catalunya 2021Friday 27 March - The 6th stage of the Volta a Catalunya runs from Tarragona to Mataró. The race adds up to 194 kilometres.

Tarragona served as a start on the 2011 Volta a Catalunya in a race to Mollet del Vallès, where José Joaquín Rojas took the win. More recently, in 2017, the Vuelta a España finished in the coastal town with Matteo Trentin sprinting to glory.

Mataró has been hosting stage starts on the Volta a Catalunya in the last four years, but this will be the first stage finish in 39 years. In 1982, Johan van der Velde bested Serge Demierre in a two-up sprint.

Today’s undulating route features a climb at shallow gradients in the finale. The Alt El Collet peaks out with 14 kilometres remaining.

The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
