Race report
Despite several attacks, the peloton stays together for oer 20 kilometres. Then, Diego Uriarte and Hugo Houle join forces, while Jon Agirre bridges across to them. The trio opens up a gap of over 8 minutes.

The trio’s lead falls to under 2 minutes on the Alto de Vistabella del Maestrat.

Several riders try to bridge across. Most of them without success, but Pablo Castrillo succeeds in this mission. He heads out alone, with only Agirre on his wheel.

The two are 2 minutes clear of the peloton for a while, but as their lead starts to shrink, Castrillo decides to go solo.

The peloton reels in the Spaniard with 10 kilometres remaining. Not long after, Jefferson Cepeda launches an attack. The Ecuadorian carves out a decent lead, but in the uphill final kilometre, Jakob Söderqvist overhauls him with Jonathan Milan in his slipstream. And, what’s this? Like a rocket, Santiago Buitrago powers up the climb! He flies past the Lidl-Trek duo and storms to victory – winning both the stage and, in all likelihood, the Tour of Valencia.
