Race report
After 10 kilometres of action Fran Miholjević launches the breakaway. Koen Bouwman and Lukas Meiler join the Croatian at the front. The trio open up a 5-minute gap before Meiler loses contact halfway through the race. Halfway through the stage, Meiler loses contact, while Antonio Tiberi is forced to abandon.

The two remaining attackers are caught with 50 kilometres to go.

On the first ascent to Telve di Sopra, a number of riders manage to open a gap, but it all comes back together on the descent. The second time around, however, things are different. Ciccone, Gall, Seixas, and Storer break away, before Storer goes solo in the final 500 metres of the climb.

Bardet and Hindley are first to join the chasing group, and they are followed by more riders, but it doesn’t bother Storer. The Australian powers solo to the stage win, and he also takes the leader’s jersey.
