Tour of the Alps 2021: The Route
The Tour of the Alps is played out from Monday 19 April to Friday the 23rd. With a total elevation gain of 13,000 the route is perfect for climbers.
The 1st stage starts in Italy to cross the Brenner Pass into Austria. The winner will step forward on a hilly finish circuit around Innsbruck.
At 121.5 kilometres, stage 2 on the Tour of the Alps is short yet hard. The elevation gain in the last 70 kilometres is 2,500 metres. Following two wall-like ascents the last 20 kilometres climb at moderate gradients to the line.
Stage 3 takes in four intermediate ascents and the last 15 kilometres are a false flat run-in to the finish line.
The Tour of the Alps serves three massive climbs on the fourth day of action. In stage 4 the riders tackle the Passo Castrin (24.4 kilometres at 5.6%), Passo Campo Carlo Magno (14.6 kilometres at 6.6%) and the 10 kilometres climb to Boniprati, which slopes at 6.8%. The finale is a technical 6.6 kilometres drop into Pieve di Bono.
The 5th stage is a testing race with yet another downhill finale. The course features five ascents, the last one is 8.5 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 6.2%. The descent to the line in Riva del Garda is 12 kilometres in length.
