Race report
Lots of movement in the opening 19 kilometres. Even race leader Mathieu van der Poel gives it a shot. But the peloton is regrouped when it reaches the first intermediate sprint. The top 3 goes head to head with Van der Poel coming out on top ahead of De Buyst and Trentin. The Dutchman increases his GC lead to 8 seconds.
After almost an hour of racing at breakneck speeds Tony Gallopin, Remy Mertz, Jon Dibben and Alex Colman open up a gap of 30 seconds. For a moment it looks like the right move, but no. The four are brought back before Dylan van Baarle and Cameron Meyer race to a lead of almost 3 minutes.
Van Baarle is the last attacker to be caught in the last round before the race comes down to the climb to the line. Van der Poel accelerates with Trentin on his wheel. When he opens his sprint the Italian drops back and the Dutchman wins the race. He extends his GC lead to 12 seconds.
