Race report
An initial move by race leader Mathieu van der Poel is neutralised before KOM leader Jake Scott goes clear with Bob Scott, Matthew Bostock and Emil Vinjebo. The breakaway four race to a lead of 3 minutes before the peloton takes the reins.
Bostock and Vinjebo are the last men standing. Literally, as the other two crashed. Unsurprisingly, they don’t hold on to the line.
Attacks by Frederik Frison, Gianni Moscon and Tiesj Benoot on Flaybrick Hill are neutralised before Groenewegen powers to victory in the ensuing bunch sprint. Matt Walls and Matteo Trentin cross the line in second and third. The Italian moves back into the overall lead thanks to a time bonus of 4 seconds.
