Unley has become somewhat of a regular in Tour Down Under. In last two editions and in 2013 the peloton left for Stirling, in 2014 the route led to Victor Harbor.
This time the focus is on Lyndoch, famous for the grape and wine industry. Last year stage 1 finished here, too. Caleb Ewan took the bunch sprint, outpowering Mark Renshaw and Wouter Wippert.
With almost 40 kilometres done the riders are to crest the Humbug Scrub, which is the only KOM-climb of the day. The summit lies at an elevation of 500 metres and whoever is there first will take the KOM-jersey.
After Humbug Scrub the route continues on rolling roads, while the last 8 kilometres are mostly downhill.
The first three riders on the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while two intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each.
