Koersverloop
On the first climb, Louis Barré, Julien Bernard and KOM leader Ben Zwiehoff join forces to open up a lead of over a minute. Zwiehoff takes the most mountain points at the summit, and repeats the feat in Lens. He then seals the KOM classification on the climb to Nax.

The trio extend their lead to a maximum of just over two minutes during the stage. By the time the final climb begins, Zwiehoff has dropped back, and the gap for the remaining two has already fallen to under a minute.

Yellow jersey Alex Baudin is dropped from the peloton with 15 kilometres remaining, while Bernard is the last rider to be reeled in shortly afterwards.

With 8 kilometres to the summit, Remco Evenepoel is dropped from the main group. Roughly 2 kilometres later, that group is whittled down to João Almeida, Jay Vine, Lenny Martinez and Lorenzo Fortunato.

Almeida and Martinez push on together in the last 4 kilometres. The cooperation is far from smooth, but they manage to stay away. In the sprint, the young Frenchman pips the Portuguese for the win, and the time bonus earns him the yellow jersey.
