There are six opportunities to gain KOM points, on all occasions on a 3rd category climbs.
The first summit is reached at kilometre 11.2 after a 4.4 kilometres climb at 4.9%. The route then barely descends before continuing uphill. With this the tone is set. The route is either climbing or descending, although the gradients are always moderate, as is the length of the hills.
After 30 kilometres the Tour de Romandie moves through Sassel after a 2.4 kilometres climb at 5.8%. Every 30 kilometres or so a similar test appears. In fact, the fourth climb is a familiar one – to Sassel. The riders are now halfway.
After a lumpy section of 50 kilometers with no available KOM points, the finale begins with 25 kilometres to go when the riders re-enter the first climb of the day – 4.4 kilometres at 4.9%. The riders fly down to the valley to tackle the last ascent of the day: 4.3 kilometres long and averaging 4.7%.
Still 7.7 kilometres remaining. Which is mainly on descent, although the last kilometre is a false flat.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
