You can follow the fight for the green jersey from Saturday, 5 July, when the first points are awarded in the race from Lille back to Lille.
The points for the green jersey are awarded at finishes and intermediate sprints. The amount of points for the last category are always the same, while the finish points vary with the kind of terrain of a particular stage. Most points are given in the flat stages, followed by medium mountain and high mountain/ITT.
The distribution of points in the Tour de France is as follows:
Maximum amounts of points: 50 – 30 – 20 – 18 – 16 – 14 – 12 – 10 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2
Medium amount of points: 30 – 25 – 22 – 19 – 17 – 15 – 13 – 11 – 9 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2
Minimum amount of points: 20 – 17 – 15 – 13 – 11 – 10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
Amount of points in intermediate sprints (all stages, except ITTs): 20 – 17 – 15 – 13 – 11 – 10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
