Tour de France 2021 Favourites stage 13: Attackers in Carcassonne
To judge from earlier Tour de France stage finishes in Carcassonne, the breakaway is likely to be successful.
The first ever Tour de France stage finish in Carcassonne happened in 1947. Lucien Teisseire won that race and five riders succeeded him since then. And on every occasion it was an attacker who took the poils.
But, obviously, past performances are by no means a guarantee of future results. For one, the course will be crucial, which is something that’s not known yet. The race starts Nîmes and finishes 220 kilometers later in Carcassonne, that’s it. A lumpy route is the most likely scenario, possibly with a relatively flat final section.
We’ll update this article later.
