Tour de France 2020: Pogacar wins atop Grand Colombier, Roglic retains yellow

Tadej Pogacar wins the group sprint atop the Grand Colombier ahead of Primoz Roglic and Richie Porte. Egan Bernal and Nairo Quintana are distanced on the long and steep climb and lose minutes. Roglic is still the man in yellow. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
The first 30 kilometres of the race are action filled. Then Matteo Trentin, Simon Geschke, Pierre Rolland, Michael Gogl, Marco Marcato, Jesús Herrada, Kévin Ledanois and Niccolò Bonifazio break clear to open up a gap of more than 4 minutes.

Herrada, Geschke and Rolland attacks on the Montée de la Selle de Fromentel. Gogl bridges across just before the summit.

The peloton closes in on the Col de la Biche. Rolland reaches the crest 2 minutes ahead of the GC group. Gogl is close behind and the two rejoin a little later.

Rolland goes solo on the Grand Colombier, but the GC group brings him back with 13 kilometres to go. At the same time Quintana and Bernal are distanced, while Guillame Martin drops back with 8 kilometres to climb.

Yates attacks 7 kilometres before the finish, but Dumoulin brings him back.

The Dutchan keeps setting the pace until Roglic accelerates inside the last 600 metres. They does not manage to break clear though and the race boils down to an uphill sprint.

Porte opens and Roglic overhauls him before Pogacar wins the race with a final jump.

Roglic stays in the overall race lead ahead of Pogacar, while Uran moves up to third.
