Tour de France 2020 Favourites stage 10: Echelons on the Atlantic coast?

The 10th stage of the Tour the France is played out to the north of Bordeaux. This area is renowned for its strong winds. It will be up to the peloton. Are we going to see a tranquil stage with a thunderous sprint finale or will it be thunderous from start to finish?

The riders travel from one island, Île d’Oléron Le Château-d’Oléron, to the next, Île de Ré Saint-Martin-de-Ré. But the most important aspect remains the nearby ocean – or, to be more precise, the Bay of Biscay, where some of the fiercest weather conditions of the Atlantic Ocean are reported. Yet, the largest storms take place during the winter months, so the riders may be spared.

The route moves through places such as Royan, Rochefort and La Rochelle. With hardly any wind this should be an easy catch for the fast men. A sprinter is also likely to turn out on top with cross winds on the Atlantic coast, but it will be the more robust type who can navigate the echelons.

With two wins Van Aert is the most successful sprinter in this Tour de France, while Kristoff and Ewan both took one victory.
