Tour de France 2019: Nibali solos to victory, Bernal wins the GC
The last mountain stage is merely 59.5 kilometres long. Vincenzo Nibali climbs to victory in Val Thorens, while Egan Bernal stays in yellow. Geraint Thomas and Steven Kruijswijk round out the podium. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
Teuns, Cort, Rui Costa, Bettiol, Van Melsen and Calmejane open up a gap at kilometre 4. Some 20 riders track them down 6 kilometres from the foot of the Val Thorens ascent. The leaders hit the first slopes 2.37 minutes ahead of the peloton.
After 6 kilometres of climbing the front group is down to Zakarin, Woods, Nibali, Périchon and Gallopin, while Frail regains contact with 18 kilometres to go. Porte is struggling before he drops back in the peloton.
Périchon can’t follow the pace at the front with 13.3 kilometres to go. Simultaneously Alaphilippe cracks in the GC group. A little later Nibali goes solo.
The Italian wins the race 10 seconds ahead of Valverde and 14 seconds ahead of Landa. Bernal stays in yellow, while Thomas moves up to second place and Kruijswijk to third.
