Tour de France 2016 Favourites stage 19: For elite breed climbers

Stage 19 in the Tour de France is a short one. Yet, it is a harsh endeavour with 38 kilometres of climbing. The closing climb is 9.8 kilometres at 8%. So it must a good climber who powers to glory in stage 18. (Slideshow route/profile)

The 2016 Tour de France is almost done, so basically today’s race comes with two possible scenarios: either a group of brave attackers hold on till the end or it will be up to the GC guys.

Obviously, some GC contenders are down in the overall and they will be eyeing up their chances for a stage win. If good climbers do manage to make it into the break, they could be in business. It all depends on the width of the gap with which they begin the two last and toughest climbs.

Montée de Bisanne is a 12.4 kilometres toil at 8.2%, crested with 50 kilometres remaining. In two stages the riders drop to the foot of the closing climb, where the first two kilometres are inhumanly steep.

Last year Chris Froome did win a Dauphiné-stage to Sain-Gervais Mont Blanc.
