Tour de France 2016 Favourites stage 11: Cav to beat Kittel (again)

>Stage 11 in the Tour de France leads to sprinters Walhalla Montpellier. The charming city has seen its fair share of sprint finshes in the history of La Grande Boucle and we can expect one more. The terrain is perfectly suited for the likes of Cav and Kittel. Is the man from Man capable to beat the mighty German? (Slideshow route/profile)

We can expect Sagan, Greipel and Kristoff to come to the fore at slightly uphill arrivals, while it is to the advantage of Cav and Kittel when the arrival is flat, like today’s. The German seems to be best armed as he has been in good shape this whole season. He has ten stage wins under his belt, plus the overall in the unsurpassed sprinter’s race, Dubai Tour.

For comparison: André Greipel did win seven races, Mark Cavendish six, and Alexander Kristoff nine. Peter Sagan’s 2016 track record boasts seven victories.

In stage 1 Cav outsprinted the pack, finishing ahead of Kittel, Sagan and Greipel, while he held off Greipel with an all or nothing jump on the false flat arrival of stage 3. Kittel powered to victory in stage 4, but in stage 6 it was Mark Cavendish time again.

So, that’s three for Cav and one for Kittel.
