Tour Colombia 2019 Route stage 1: TTT in Medellín

Tour Colombia 2019 Route 1st stageTuesday 12 February - Tour Colombia opens with a flat team time trial of 14 kilometres in Medellín.

A time trial was never before included in the Colombian stage race. Small wonder, this is the 2nd edition. Only featuring stages in line, last year’s inaugural edition was held under the name Colombia Oro y Paz.

The opening time trial is almost entirely flat, yet takes place at nearly 1,500 metres elevation. A false flat with 4 kilometres remaining is the only ‘obstacle’. Expect high speeds and motivated riders, as for most of them this is their first race in 2019.

BMC used to be the TTT squad to watch in recent years, but as the team disbanded we should expect a successor to come to the fore. Sky perhaps? Their line-up in Colombia – with Froome, title defender Bernal and specialist Jonathan Castroviejo – is formidable, – that’s for sure.
