Race report
Dillier, De Bondt, Tonelli, Ballerini, Guerreiro, Samitier and Tusveld break clear after 50 kilometres of hard racing. Eight more riders bridge across, Van der Poel, Fabbro, Barta, Vermote, Campenaerts, Bernard and Visconti, and the lead group opens up a gap of almost 5 minutes.
The lead group enters the finishing circuit in Loreto 4 minutes ahead of the peloton.
Fabbro and Guerreiro head out together to attack on the climb to the finish. The bell for the last round sounds with a lead of 2 minutes over the peloton. Van der Poel restores contact before the road goes downhill again.
Tusveld, Samitier and Visconti bridge across before Fabbro attacks. The 25-year old Italian opens a lead of 30 seconds, while Fuglsang, Thomas (Benjamin) and Holmes attack in the peloton.
Fabbro reaches the last kilometre with a 17 seconds lead, but Van der Poel overhauls him in the last hundred meters and the Dutchman powers to the win.
Another Dutchman, Kelderman, finishes in fourth, while Yates holds on to the leader’s jersey.
